Timeline: 2013-December 31, 2024 . (Our goal is to have the land transfer completed by the end of 2024.)
Status: These forestry lands are acquired through the Reconciliation Implementation Framework Agreement (RIFA) which outlines the phased transfer of forestry lands from BC to Snuneymuxw.
About the land/project: Mount Benson and Mount McKay are where these RIFA forestry lands are situated, these mountains are sacred components of a Snuneymuxw village, with spiritual and cultural significance. The RIFA Phase 1 Forestry Land Transfer has been completed, where over 1000 hectares have been transferred to Snuneymuxw, to-date. By the end of 2025, we are aiming to receive an additional 2000+ hectares of forestry lands, and once RIFA’s phased land transfer approach is completed, a total of 4000+ hectares of forestry lands will acquired by Snuneymuxw through the agreement.
